Lane Selman, MS
Professor of Practice, Oregon State University and Founding Director, Culinary Breeding Network
Lane Selman is a Professor of Practice at Oregon State University and a nationally recognized food advocate working at the intersection of agriculture, flavor, and community. Raised on her family’s citrus farm on Florida’s Space Coast—founded by her Sicilian great-grandparents in 1919—she earned degrees in Agronomy (BS) and Entomology (MS) from the University of Florida before moving to Oregon in 2000.
In 2012, Lane founded the Culinary Breeding Network (CBN), a community-driven initiative connecting plant breeders, farmers, chefs, and eaters to develop and promote organic, flavorful vegetables, fruits, and grains. CBN centers flavor and farmer participation in variety development, helping bridge the gap between the field and the kitchen.
Lane’s work has been featured in Food & Wine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Civil Eats, and Eating Well. She lives in Portland, Oregon.
